On December 17, 2021, we sex workers, united in STAR – The First Sex Workers Collective in the Balkans, together with our supporters for the 14th time have organized the Red Umbrella March in Skopje.
Within this year’s campaign, marking 17th December – The International Day to Stop Violence against Sex Workers, we have emphasized the need for urgent adoption of a new legal framework to regulate sex work in the Republic of North Macedonia.
We demand an immediate decriminalization of sex work in the country and recognition of the human and labour rights of the world’s oldest workers.
Decriminalizing sex work means sex workers are more likely to live without stigma, social exclusion, and fear of violence.
We want to be recognized by the institutions and involved in the process of creating the best legal solution to regulate our work, starting with amendments to Article 191 of the Criminal Code and Article 19 of the Law on Misdemeanors Against the Public Order.”
As a result of another successful campaign to mark this important day for sex workers, STAR promotes its video recorded during last year’s march: Red Umbrella March 2021.
The implementation of the campaign to celebrate 17th December – The International Day to Stop Violence against Sex Workers is funded by Foundation Open Society – Macedonia.
