Last week, between 13-16.06.2022, ESWA held training sessions for the their new research project: “Accessing Justice: the role of policing in sex workers’ experience of justice”, which was attended by two representatives of STAR-STAR.
The European Sex Workers Rights Alliance (ESWA) is conducting new research on sex workers’ experience of justice, and access to justice, in Europe and Central Asia, to ensure that sex workers can access justice and state protection from violence and exploitation. The research is planned to be published in early 2024.
The research is part of the FPAR (Feminist Participatory Action Research) project, through which 10 grants were awarded to 10 ESWA member organizations, including STAR-STAR, giving our organization the opportunity to conduct research with the community to share experiences with police in accessing justice. STAR-STAR in the coming period will conduct interviews with sex workers about their experiences with the police at the national level.
ESWA aims to collect evidence that will demonstrate the issues that make it difficult for sex workers to access justice. The project will focus on policing, and the police’s role in sex workers’ access to justice. For many sex workers and other marginalised communities, police can be an obstacle to access to justice, when they are not direct perpetrators of violence against sex workers.
