On 27th May 2021, starting at 19.00h in the Panoramika Hotel in Skopje, STAR – the First Sex Workers’ Collective in the Balkans held its jubilee event titled A Decade of Sex Workers’ Raised Voices, Transparency and Accountability 2010-2020.
The event was organized within the frames of the campaign also called A Decade of Sex Workers’ Raised Voices, Transparency and Accountability by which the organization’s operations and achievements are promoted for the period between 2010 and 2020.
The campaign celebrating this significant jubilee, amongst other things promotes the Ten-Year Report on the Programs, Activities and Financing of the Association for Support of Marginalized Workers STAR-STAR Skopje for the period between 2010 and 2020, which was presented during the event. This Ten-Year Report features key achievements of the organization in terms of its Mission, Vision, its strategic areas of operation, the realization of the strategic commitments and goals, and it also includes a subsection on financing in which the Association’s sources of financing are listed. This Report serves as a reminder for the donors and the general population regarding the progress in our efforts to fight for sex workers’ rights, which STAR – the First Sex Workers’ Collective in the Balkans has been advocating for ever since its inception, and is committed to tirelessly continue to do so in future with its full capacity.
Many of our partners, supporters and associates from the civil sector, local and international institutions and organizations representatives, as well as sex workers rights activists attended the event.
The Jubilee commenced with opening speeches delivered by the President of the Association and the President of the Management Board outlining the growth and development of the Association starting from its founding to the present day. Special tributes were paid to the untimely departures of certain deserving individuals who contributed to STAR-STAR’s growth throughout the years.
We were also joined online by Luca Stevenson from the International Committee for the Right of Sex Workers in Europe, who had a brief address outlining the cooperation in the area of promoting sex workers rights, as well as giving words of praise for STAR-STAR’s overall work, growth and development.
Three sex workers’ rights activists also had short speeches to expresses their gratitude to the Association for its commitment, support and protection it has given to sex workers in our country.
STAR-STAR’s leadership decided to award Certificates of Gratitude and Acknowledgement to our most deserving partners, supporters and associates, all of whom gave words of praise for the Association filled with emotions upon receiving the Certificates.
The event was organized in accordance with the Protocol for Protection and Preventing the Spread of the Coronavirus currently in place.
