Every year on 2nd of June, we celebrate the International Sex Workers’ Day in honor of sex workers around the world and our fight to recognize sex work as a labor and occupation. This day is considered as a symbolic birth of the activist movement of sex workers in the fight for the protection of human rights.
STAR-The First Sex Workers Collective in the Balkans in partnership with HOPS – Healthy options project Skopje and TransFormA – An Initiative for Protection and Promotion of Transgender People’s Rights in North Macedonia is organizing an online campaign with a promotion of a short video „Why Skopje deserves the Red Light Districts back?” and podcast „Breakfast with MISS STRAWBERRY (MDMF).
The video is aiming to show the benefits and positive aspects of sex work for sex workers through the history of old Skopje, where there were public brothels and red light districts where the “ladies of the night” worked and gave sexual services to their clients. For these facts, there are numerous records, artworks and permanent testimonies that authentically reflect the sex work in Old Skopje. The video also shows scenes from the past two events with an artistic performance by sex workers from Skopje Red Light District. The Red Light District is a symbol of solidarity and tolerance towards the oldest profession in the world.
Within the campaign, a podcast hosted by a sex worker will be launched. Our MISS STRAWBERRY is talking with a sex worker who has been working on the streets in Skopje for more than 40 years.
The campaign aims to reduce the negative social perception of sex workers and raise awareness among general population for recognizing the sex work as work.
The video and podcast will be promoted within our online campaign at the following link: https://fb.me/e/2gkpYSDLq
