International Transgender Day of Remembrance is observed annually on November 20 as a day to memorialize those who have been murdered as a result of transphobia and to draw attention to the continued violence endured by the transgender community.
Transgender Day of Remembrance was founded in 1999 by Gwendolyn Ann Smith, a transgender activist to memorialize the murder of transgender woman Rita Hester in Allston, Massachusetts. Since its inception, the Transgender Day of Remembrance has been held annually on November 20, throughout more than 20 countries. Within the TDoR numerous campaigns, events and marches are organized worldwide in order to inform the public about the problems and violence that transgender people are facing with every day.
In Macedonia there is no official data about transgender murder cases, but there are several recorded cases of psychological and physical violence against the transgender people.
Transgender people have to enjoy equal human rights like any other citizen and we all need to fight against any kind of violence.
